RE: George Orwell Becomes a Blogger: Diaries Published "Real Time," 70 Years Late
"@DeadWriter: Can you confirm the title?"
      [gizmodo.com]

His Letters from Burma, is a collection of his letters from Burma. I am not sure where I got the book. It looks to be out of print. Burmese Days is a novel based on his experiences in Burma. [www.amazon.com] I was mistaken, On Shooting and Elephant isn't in either book. Bermese Days is a really good read.

Orwell did a lot to shape my world. Part of it may be that I was a kid in 1984, and I had no idea why the date was important. It could also be that on a trip to South East Asia I learned that not much has changed since Orwell's time. The colonial influences have not disappeared. The remnants of social systems and political systems still can been seen. Death from accidents and lack of medical care is still common.

Kipling, Conrad and Orwell were anti-colonialists, and reading some of their works, along with Somerset Maugham can give one a grim look at any form of colonialism. If I were designing an anti-colonialist text book, those are a few of the authors that I would put together. I have a list of authors that I would assemble in a Dystopiast (sp?) reader. I started thinking about the ant-utopian writing after I realized that Orwell wasn't the first writer to venture down that path.

I have written far to much here. To end, I am sorry that I didn't post links to the book earlier. The lack of 'cut-and-paste' in the iPhone is irritating.

      Enjoy your week.
